Elgin Chantrell MLS Search Homes for sale …. Like many of the established neighbourhoods in South Surrey, the community of Elgin Chantrell has its own unique history. Back in the late 1800’s, Elgin was a popular stopover for travelers who were making their way along the Semiahmoo Road. A small hotel was built with a convenience store and a post office to serve the locals and the visitors passing through.

In 1886, Elgin was declared as a Canada Customs entry port. This was a bustling point of entry back in the day, but neighbouring ports in White Rock and Douglas were built in more accessible locations and over time they began to receive the bulk of the traffic. Although this neighbourhood no longer serves as a Canadian port, the Elgin and Chantrell neighbourhoods are now seen as a highly desirable place to buy a home.

Elgin Chantrell Homes and Heritage Park is located on the south bank of the Nicomekl River. Close to all White Rock Condos as well .The marshy shoreline attracts a wide variety of animals including hawks and eagles. This land was originally claimed by John Hardy in the late 1800’s and was eventually sold to a man named John Stewart who established his homestead on the property. For over fifty years, his family worked the surrounding farm land and helped to build a local school, church, and community hall. The home still sits on this property today as a proud statement of Elgin history.
